Anyone Else Facing “Outlook Fails to Open in Safe Mode” Recently?

I thought opening Outlook in Safe Mode would help me fix a startup issue, but surprisingly Outlook itself stopped opening there too. Every time I used outlook.exe /safe, it either hung on the loading screen or showed an error message. Basically, Outlook Fails to Open in Safe Mode no matter what I tried initially.

Here are the things I tested manually:

  • Disabled Outlook add-ins
  • Reset the navigation pane
  • Created a new Outlook profile
  • Repaired Microsoft Office
  • Restarted Windows in clean boot mode

Some of these steps improved performance slightly, but the issue returned whenever Outlook tried loading mailbox data. After spending hours reading forums, I realized many users face this because of corrupted PST files or damaged Outlook profiles.

I eventually tried the DRS Softech PST Recovery Tool because I needed my mailbox data urgently and didn’t want to risk losing emails. The software scanned the damaged PST file and recovered folders, deleted emails, attachments, and calendars pretty smoothly. What helped most was that it worked even with a large mailbox file.

If Outlook failed to launch in safe mode on your system too, don’t ignore the possibility of PST corruption. Manual fixes are useful, but they don’t always solve deeper mailbox-related issues.
