How I Found a Strong Topic for My Law Dissertation

Choosing a suitable law dissertation topic initially felt overwhelming because I wanted something focused enough to research but broad enough to support meaningful legal analysis. I started exploring current areas of legal research, including technology and law, human rights, criminal justice, environmental law, data protection, and international law. These areas are actively represented in current UK university research.

I eventually narrowed my options by considering the availability of reliable primary and secondary sources and whether I could develop a clear research question. This approach helped me move beyond simply choosing an interesting subject and focus on a topic where I could build a strong critical argument.
